This interview is over 1 year old and may no longer be up to date or reflect the interviewee/interviewees’ positions

Naomi House’s interview with success story JJ.

JJNaomi:  How did you find your current job?
JJ:  My job was posted on INALJ as well as alajoblist.  Admittedly, I saw it on the alajoblist first.

Naomi:  Favorite library you have been to?
JJ:  I adore the British Library but keep in mind that I spent a few glorious weeks there on and off over the years doing research.

Naomi:  Favorite book?
JJ:  Just one?! *wails* I just finished Gulp by Mary Roach and I loved it.  Favorite book of all time? Too many to count!

Naomi:  Favorite thing about libraries/ library technology?
JJ:  Being able to access and learn all the things!

Naomi:  Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
JJ:  Profhacker

Naomi:  Best piece of job hunting advice?
JJ:  Don’t be afraid to ask for advice from other job hunters and have other people look at your materials.  Be consistent across the spectrum – if you have a linkedin, it should be a mirror image of your resume or CV – in this tight job market, employers do look at it.

JJ is now an Instruction and Research Services Librarian at Wichita State University.  In her previous career, she was an adjunct professor of English, Literature, and Humanities.  She has circumnavigated the globe in one summer, rides a motorcycle, and has a deep addiction to black loose leaf tea.  In her off hours, she builds Star Wars Lego sets, needlepoints, and plays video games across multiple platforms.
