INALJ Fundraiser / Donation Info

Naomi House four images of her face taken on a train, she is white and wearing a blue shirtHi Everyone,

I am running a fundraiser to pay for INALJ as well as my own personal bills for 6 months (March-August) and I am hoping some of you can help.

I had hoped not to have to do a fundraiser, but the truth is the pandemic has affected my income tremendously. March, April and May I earned 20% of what I did last year. In June, 0%. Not one single job advertiser when I usually have around 10.  4 months of drastically diminished income and I really do need to reach out.

Options Beyond Donating

If you are an employer who has a jobs advertising budget Sponsor a job ad on INALJ! Or if you are an org or individual you can sponsor an INALJ state page.

What is the plan?

I will keep running the site regardless. I do expect that things will bounce back and that this is temporary. I have only run a few fundraisers in 10 years and do not expect to need to do more.  In fact this is an old fundraiser I just re-started. My goal is regular advertising revenue. INALJ has always been FREE for all to use, regardless and I will not change that. It will never be pay-to-access.

Why $12k?

This is the low end of revenue that my family can live on with the cost of the site added on for 6 months (March-August) at $2k per month. We are a family of 4 who are able to live very frugally.  We do not qualify for unemployment as we are self-employed and the process for self-employed gov payments does not let us qualify.

Where Else Are You Hoping To Get Income?

I have PayPal on my site as well. But what I am hoping is that job advertisers start up again.  This $12k I am trying to raise will be inclusive of ALL revenue streams – here, other donations, job ads. I will update weekly what other income / donations I receive and in total I will consider the fundraiser fulfilled and will note here.

I am also on the job hunt for the first time since 2013, with the goal of having my husband take over the manual labor of the site, with me advising, once I am hired.

What is INALJ?  How has it helped?

INALJ  (formerly I need a Library job) launched as a daily #LibraryJobs pdf in October 2010 and the website INALJ  launched a year later. Since then I’ve shared hundreds of thousands of jobs with LIS and library job hunters both traditional and non-traditional jobs.

INALJ has had over 20 MILLION page views in 8.5 years!  And the site has helped numerous LIS (library and information science) professionals find their jobs.  In the summer of 2020, in response to the scarcity of traditional library jobs due to the pandemic, I launched a highly popular series of interviews with Library workers in non-traditional jobs, which doubled traffic to INALJ.

In the past few years I have received some income (finally) by allowing Sponsored jobs but the costs are still high to maintain the site.  It takes a significant amount of money to run the site and host it each year.  Any and all donations will help support me in my labor, as well as help fund the site.

Naomi House, MLIS, is the founder and publisher of the popular webzine and jobs list INALJ.com (formerly I Need a Library Job) and former CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) of T160K.org, a crowdfunding platform focused on African patrimony, heritage and cultural projects. INALJ was founded in October 2010 with the assistance of her fellow Rutgers classmate, Elizabeth Leonard. Its social media presence has grown to include Facebook (retired in 2016), Twitter and a LinkedIn group, in addition to the interviews, articles and jobs found on INALJ. INALJ has had over 21 Million page hits and helped many, many thousands of librarians find employment! Through grassroots marketing, word of mouth and a real focus on exploring unconventional resources for job leads, INALJ grew from a subscription base of 20 friends to a website with over 500,000 visits in one month. Naomi believes that well-sourced quantity is quality in this narrow job market and INALJ reflects this with many new jobs published daily. She has also written for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 LexisNexis Government Info Pro and many other publications in the past decade. She presents whenever she can, including serving on three panels at the American Library Association's Annual Conference in Las Vegas; as breakout presenter at OCLC EMEA in Cape Town, South Africa; as a keynote speaker at the Virginia Library Association annual meeting; at the National Press Club in Washington DC; McGill University in Montreal, Canada; the University of the Emirates, Dubai, MLIS program and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Naomi was a Reference, Marketing and Acquisitions Librarian for a contractor at a federal library outside Washington, DC, and has been living and working in Budapest, Hungary and Western New York State. She spent years running her husband’s moving labor website, fixed and sold old houses and assisted her husband cooking delicious Pakistani food. She is preparing to re-enter the workforce and is job hunting. Her husband is now the co-editor of INALJ, a true support!  She has heard of spare time but hasn’t encountered it lately. She pronounces INALJ as eye-na-elle-jay.
