A Thank You Post to the Rejection Phone Call

rcmiesslerIt might be that my favorite season is upon us, that I’m just feeling the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, or maybe the cynic in me is getting soft, but I feel that a post of thankfulness is in order. Specifically, as a follow-up to my blog post A Rejection Letter to the Rejection Letter, I have to thank the two librarians who called me following two applications that did not lead to employment. Both were part of the search committees and took part in my on-site interviews, and when the hiring processes were over, they reached out to let me know I am on the right track, and to offer some practical advice as I continue on the path towards a career as a professional librarian. These individuals did not have to take time out of their days to talk to me, yet they did, and I can’t thank them enough for helping with my professional development. I hope to repay this one day when serving on search committees myself, providing feedback to candidates who didn’t quite make it to the end, yet show promise and potential.

So, thanks to S. and W. who gave me a confidence boost when I needed it, and some helpful advice as I continue the quest for a librarian job!
