What Kind of Librarian am I?<\/span><\/h3>\n

\"2013-11-30<\/a>As a rule I do not take the quizzes that people post on Facebook. You know the\u00a0ones: Which mythological creature are you? Who is your alter ego? What kind\u00a0of golf swing are you? How New York are you? What character from Downton\u00a0Abbey are you? I love Downton Abbey as much as any other binge watcher,\u00a0but I\u2019m not sure I want to know which character I am. And if I start taking all\u00a0those quizzes I will spend even more time on Facebook, which is not one of my\u00a0current goals.<\/p>\n

However, when the quiz “What Kind of Librarian Are You?<\/a>” turned up on a\u00a0fellow librarian\u2019s feed, I did not hesitate. I clicked that link because I really did\u00a0want to know what kind of librarian I am.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat kind of librarian are you?\u201d is chiefly a question librarians reserve for\u00a0each other. Which is good, because as someone who uses her mad library skills\u00a0as a researcher, not a librarian, it\u2019s not easy for me to answer. At least other\u00a0librarians understand what I do. And they don\u2019t ask the follow up question, \u201cSo\u00a0which library do you do that in?\u201d<\/p>\n

In this case, I was very excited to have a quiz do the answering for me.<\/p>\n

The quiz is hosted by PlayBuzz and was created by the Seattle Public Library\u00a0in June. There are eight questions\/options that supposedly unearth the bits of\u00a0your personality that add up to your right librarianship.<\/p>\n

The questions and\/or requests are: 1. Pick a cocktail. 2. If you were a Dewey\u00a0Decimal number, what would you be? 3. Pick a cat. 4. Which event would you\u00a0be most likely to attend? 5) Pick a gluten-free snack. 6. It’s a rainy Saturday\u00a0night. What movie do you want to watch? 7. What’s your favorite NW musical\u00a0act? 8. Pick a Banned Book.<\/p>\n

I got History\/Genealogy Librarian. Here is the description: \u201cYou\u2019ve been\u00a0described as a \u2018pit bull\u2019 because you\u2019re tenacious in the pursuit of answers.\u00a0For you, no mystery can remain unsolved, and you know exactly how many of\u00a0your ancestors were royalty. You can be a little intense, but this is balanced by\u00a0your great hair and penchant for reading romance novels. Your favorite color is\u00a0cerulean.\u201d<\/p>\n

I think my favorite color is more of a blue green than actually cerulean, and I\u00a0was kind of surprised they didn\u2019t mention Downton Abbey at all, but overall,\u00a0yes, I would be a very happy history\/genealogy librarian.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know what all the possible librarian outcomes are. On Facebook I\u2019ve\u00a0seen selection librarians, teen librarians, reference librarians, reader\u2019s\u00a0advisory librarians, and music and arts librarians.<\/p>\n

Before I wrote this post I decided to take the quiz again and put in all the\u00a0answers that were least true for me. That got me labeled as a cataloguer.\u00a0There aren\u2019t any cataloguers at the library I (don\u2019t) work in so I don\u2019t have to\u00a0worry about a department transfer!<\/p>\n
