Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?
\nChris:<\/b>\u00a0 Pretty hard to beat the Royal Library in Copenhagen<\/a>, although the public library here is Malm\u00f6 is nice too.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite book?
\nChris:<\/b>\u00a0 Hm. Probably Let Us Now Praise Famous Men<\/em><\/a> by Agee & Evans?<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nChris:<\/b>\u00a0 No question, it’s the people. Although I was recently informed it has been changing, the gender ratio in libraries is much better than in the general tech field, which is quite bad in terms of diversity.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
\nChris:<\/b>\u00a0 Everyone should be on Code4Lib<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nChris:<\/b>\u00a0 If you know how to program, you will not only find a job, but you’ll have your pick of several. Learn Python or Ruby or Java or Perl or PHP. You don’t have to be an expert right off the bat.<\/p>\n

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Chris Fitzpatrick started his library career as a work-study shelver at Portland State University. After graduating and finding limited job opportunities for History degree holders, he washed dishes long enough to afford a move to California, where he enrolled in the San Jose State MLIS<\/a> program. While at SJSU, he worked as a media manager at Current TV, where he was able augment his programing skills. He has also worked at Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, Stanford Libraries, and is currently at the World Maritime University in Malm\u00f6, Sweden<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
