Spiva &#8211; Senior Manager of Customer Service and Social Media and Success Story<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Silvia-Spiva.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-57658 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Silvia-Spiva-285x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Silvia Spiva\" width=\"200\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Silvia-Spiva-285x300.jpeg 285w, https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Silvia-Spiva.jpeg 834w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Kiersten:<\/b> How did you find your current job?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> As part of my studies at <a href=\"http:\/\/slisweb.sjsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SJSU SLIS<\/a>, I&#8217;ve been attending and participating in webinars and conferences focused on the future of libraries. \u00a0It was through these online conversations that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/boopsie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boopsie for Libraries<\/a> started following me on Twitter. \u00a0About a month later, I was able to connect with Boopsie&#8217;s CEO on LinkedIn. \u00a0That&#8217;s when I was invited to interview for my current role as Senior Manager of Customer Service and Social Media.<br \/>\n<b>Kiersten:<\/b> Favorite library you have been to?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> My favorite library was my elementary school&#8217;s at Merritt Trace in San Jose. \u00a0Sadly, it was destroyed a few years ago as a result of arson. \u00a0It was shortly thereafter that I decided to become a librarian. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sjusd.org\/trace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/sjusd.org\/trace\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Kiersten:<\/b> Favorite book?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> I love anything by Agatha Christie, especially her books including Hercule Poirot. \u00a0To this day, though, I haven&#8217;t read Curtain because I don&#8217;t want to know how Poirot dies. \u00a0So, if you&#8217;ve read it, don&#8217;t tell me.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kiersten:<\/b> Any websites or blogs we should be following?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> I subscribe to In Plain English <a href=\"http:\/\/myblog-inplainenglish.blogspot.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/myblog-inplainenglish.blogspot.it<\/a> by Pasqua Allegrini \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PasquaAllegrini\">@PasquaAllegrini\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>She is a teacher of English in Italy. \u00a0Reading her posts reminds me to look at the news of the day with a world view.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kiersten:<\/b> Favorite thing about libraries\/library technology?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:\u00a0 <\/b>The future is all about libraries, and you can&#8217;t separate technology from them. \u00a0Facebook, iTunes, Google&#8230;they are all libraries. \u00a0I don&#8217;t view my official library studies as optional, they are a logical evolution in my high-tech marketing career.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kiersten:<\/b> If you could take any of your hobbies and create a job out of it, or integrate it into your job, what would it be?<a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Kiersten-Bryant.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-28914 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Kiersten-Bryant.png\" alt=\"Kiersten Bryant\" width=\"210\" height=\"127\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> I still have fantasies of being a good old-fashioned children&#8217;s librarian. \u00a0I could never think of storytime as a chore. \u00a0Ideally, I&#8217;ll be able to find a way to work with technology and children. \u00a0Kids are the best teachers!<\/p>\n<p><b>Kiersten:<\/b> Do you have any job hunting\/career advice for our readers?<br \/>\n<b>Silvia:<\/b> Be genuine. \u00a0Don&#8217;t maintain separate accounts for work and personal updates. Give people the chance to like you for who you really are. \u00a0Your conversations will be more valuable.<\/p>\n<p><i>Silvia K. Spiva is a practical marketer, who has spent most of her career building digital libraries for sales in high-tech companies such as Sybase, Cisco, and Apple. \u00a0She is currently fully immersed in the library world as a student at San Jose State University&#8217;s School of Library and Information Science, and a manager at Boopsie for Libraries.
