The time to look back on all the year\u2019s events and truly think about what you might want the New Year to bring. Join me as these fellow LIS professionals think about what\u2019s to come in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My resolutions for 2014 are: to increase student awareness of our college resources (library, tutoring and writing center and counseling center services) and to aid students with their educational and lifelong successes. I just applied for a grant to put on an open house at <a href=\"http:\/\/library.miracosta.edu\/CLC\">MiraCosta&#8217;s Community Learning Center<\/a> highlighting these resources!&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Alexandra Doyle Bauer<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even though it may seem odd for a librarian, I am hoping to do less reading and more writing this year in the hopes of making a loved one&#8217;s dream come true.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Camille Salas (@<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unacamisa\" target=\"_blank\">unacamisa<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My resolution for the New Year is to continue working on scoping out the right resources for my users. For me, the goal of librarianship is to maximize findability of resources for users, and facilitate the best user experience possible.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Carlos Martinez, III\u00a0 (@<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CarlosMtz3\" target=\"_blank\">CarlosMtz3<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To continue combating library stereotypes, and to do my best to uphold the banner that, much like our users, not all librarians are made from the same cloth.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Mack Simon, Jr.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2014, I would like to read at least five journal articles or blog posts per week discussing new developments in the field.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; MD Librarian<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I&#8217;m just about to enter my last semester at SJSU, my resolutions all pretty much come down to translating my MLIS into an awesome youth services gig at a public library.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Meredith Sires (@<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mersires\" target=\"_blank\">mersires<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy resolution is to check out more of the libraries in my area. I currently live in Italy and think it would be fascinating to see how other international librarians, and LIS professionals, conduct their business on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Sandra Hoyer<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2014, I resolve the following&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0If I have the opportunity (time and money\/grant) to take a certification class or to sharpen a skill (i.e. Photoshop on Skillshare.com)&#8211;do it.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Schedule out my day\/week and stick to it.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Squeeze in time to: \u00a0work out (30 minutes exercise 5x day); do art (20 minutes every morning draw something in sketch book) to keep things &#8220;balanced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0Do free librarian work for someone in need at least once a month. \u00a0(There are lots of homeless neighbors I have or people with no access to information that could use me. \u00a0I can help a friend or neighbor navigate medical health care sights or Covered California.)<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0See my parents.<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0Do whatever it takes to get to Barcelona in February for my birthday!<\/p>\n<p>7. \u00a0Write my comic each\u00a0Sunday\u00a0(or pick a day).<\/p>\n<p>8. \u00a0Finish housing a collection at the Center before March.<\/p>\n<p>9. \u00a0Do more of the following: \u00a0yoga, swimming, walking, looking for FT archives\/library work, writing, cooking, cleaning, organizing, archiving, planning, creating, blogging, cartooning, painting, working&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>10. \u00a0Remember to always re-frame any negative statement that I have in my head (or comes out of my mouth). \u00a0Replace any doubt I may have with myself and always strive to do my best.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n<p>-Tess McCarthy\u00a0 (@<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Archbrarian\" target=\"_blank\">Archbrarian<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your LIS-inspired resolutions for 2014??<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Sandra Hoyer, Head Editor,\u00a0INALJ Washington New Year\u2019s Resolutions: LIS Edition It\u2019s that time of the year again.
