I started library school with the hope that I would one day become a fashion librarian and working for a place like FIT was my number one priority. Everything fell into place and I received a part-time position before I graduated with my MLS. I recently became a full-time employee at FIT. I found my position with LIM College through the INALJ.com daily email.

Naomi: Favorite library you have been to?
Nicole: I have to say that the FIT Special Collections and Archives (Gladys Marcus Library) is pretty special. The uniqueness of the collections are awe inspiring. The collections contain a variety of fashion artifacts ranging from the Frances Neady Collection to the oral history of Bergdorf Goodman.

Naomi: Favorite book?
Nicole: My favorite book is The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever by Teri Agins. I read this book during my freshman year of my undergraduate program and it was really the start of my journey towards my current positions.

Naomi: Favorite thing about libraries/ library technology?
Nicole: My favorite thing about libraries and library technology is how beautifully they blend. The knowledge that one person can gain from spending one afternoon at a library is priceless and can really lift one’s spirits.

Naomi: Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
Nicole: The Reference & User Services Association list-serv is always an interesting read. It helps you learn about other ideas and concepts that libraries are using and how they might benefit your own patrons.

Naomi: Best piece of job hunting advice?
Nicole: There are three key steps in job hunting. One: I believe that if you can define what you would like to do in the library or information technology industry, then that will help you truly find the right job for you. Two: Using resources such as INALJ.com and your local library consortium’s job bank will help you with your overall job search. Three: Networking, this starts with your first day in library school. You never know where a relationship with a fellow student/professor can lead you in the future.

Nicole LaMoreaux is currently a Full-time Reference Assistant I at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Gladys Marcus Library and a Part-time Evening Librarian at LIM College’s Adrian G.
