Since school had already begun, it was not the best time to find open positions, so I jumped on the lead, even though the district was a couple hours away from home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?<br \/>\n<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fvrl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The library in Vancouver, Washington<\/a>. I have fond memories of taking my daughter to the children\u2019s section and checking out many, many wonderful books.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite book?<br \/>\n<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is a difficult question! As in my taste for music, my reading interests are very eclectic, and retro! I have loved, and still do, the <em>Little House<\/em> books, <em>Bambi <\/em>by Felix Salten, <em>Airport<\/em> by Arthur Hailey, and <em>Dr. Zhivago<\/em> by Boris Pasternak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/library technology?<br \/>\n<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s exciting to find something new on the shelves, and still mind-boggling that I can read magazines electronically on my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/u\/nook-magazines-digital\/379003355\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nook<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?<br \/>\n<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 My latest employment adventure has taken me away, at least for now, from following any favorites. I did have my own professional Twitter account where I primarily relayed information pertinent to school librarians, but I haven\u2019t tweeted in weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?<br \/>\n<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even when it looks like there will never be an offer for you, when you\u2019ve heard (or read in letter or email) too many times, \u201csorry, but we\u2019ve selected someone else,\u201d have hope, as there is a job for you out there somewhere.<\/p>\n<p><em>I have been a school librarian for 11 years at both elementary and secondary campuses, and through unusual circumstances and weird timing, I found myself unemployed and on the hunt for a new job, and the school year had already begun. However, I did find another position, but it has led me to live away from my spouse during the week, returning home every weekend.
