{"id":4687,"date":"2012-10-22T09:20:33","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T13:20:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=4687"},"modified":"2012-11-20T16:10:59","modified_gmt":"2012-11-20T21:10:59","slug":"scott-wiebensohn-success-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=4687","title":{"rendered":"Scott Wiebensohn &#8230;Success Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>My interview with success story, Scott<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/scottw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4688\" title=\"scottw\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/scottw-e1350912025119-150x87.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"87\" \/><\/a><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you find your current job?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 I found my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eslccc.com\/lrc.html\">East St. Louis Community College Center<\/a> Library Director position through a professional contact on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/\">LinkedIn<\/a> and my Learning Resource Center Manager job at Sanford-Brown College &#8211; Collinsville through an old college roommate.\u00a0 Yes, I work a full-time position and a part-time evening one too!\u00a0 I enjoy my library jobs immensely and still find time to run 30+ miles a week to maintain a balanced healthy life.\u00a0 Simply, it helps to know the right people and keep in contact with them, not only through social media, but also in a deeply personal manner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 I truly loved my time spent in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vpl.ca\/branches\/details\/carnegie_branch\">Carnegie Library in Vancouver, British Columbia<\/a>, Canada.\u00a0 It has such a rich historic story and is a must see if you are ever in the area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite book?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 The moment I opened <em>Orange Pear Apple Bear<\/em> by Emily Gravett I had to read it out loud.\u00a0 It is one of my favorite books to read for storytime and I highly recommend it whether you have children or are a child at heart!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 I still enjoy all of the people that visit my libraries.\u00a0 To me libraries are more than just buildings with a collection of information and resources.\u00a0 Libraries are time machines for viewing the world through the acquisition, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge.\u00a0 A library is also a means for a community to connect with its past, stay in tune with its present, and plot the course for its future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 Personally, I just don\u2019t follow any one source of information.\u00a0 Since I\u2019m a new transplant to St. Louis, I rely on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alivemag.com\/\">Alive Magazine<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/explorestlouis.com\/\">Explore St. Louis<\/a>.\u00a0 They are both wonderfully helpful resources for someone seeking entertainment or local information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:<\/strong>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?<br \/>\n<strong>Scott:<\/strong>\u00a0 My best advice is that you have to put yourself in a situation to be mobile.\u00a0 It is also quite helpful to think outside of the box, be strategic, and apply for jobs that are at a level to push you to succeed!<\/p>\n<p><em>I come from a long line of Wisconsin mink ranchers, but at the age of eleven, I vividly remember my Uncle Kurt telling me, \u201cDon\u2019t ever grow up to be a mink rancher!\u201d\u00a0 Over the past decade I have worked in various education settings and taught 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 7<sup>th<\/sup>, and 8<sup>th<\/sup> Grades.\u00a0 More recently, because the field of librarianship has been an unwavering source of intellectual interest, I shifted my employment to public and academic libraries.
