My interview with success story, Mike<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Naomi:<\/strong> How did you find your current job?
\nMike:<\/strong> I responded to a job listing on http:\/\/www.metrolibraries.net\/res\/jobline.html<\/a>.\u00a0 I had a good interview, and one of my former supervisors gave me a good reference.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/strong> Favorite library you have been to?
\nMike:<\/strong> My favorite library is the main Hennepin County Public Library in Minneapolis<\/a>.\u00a0 It’s a beautiful new modern library.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/strong> Favorite book?
\nMike:<\/strong> I’m a huge Ray Bradbury fan.\u00a0 My favorite book is The Martian Chronicles<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/strong> Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nMike:<\/strong> Every library has the potential to change a life or make a difference.\u00a0 That potential is my favorite thing about libraries.\u00a0 We have all sorts of tools to help people with their information needs, but I like to think that it is an especially good interaction or a long-term relationship that library users remember.\u00a0 Most transactions are routine, but every once in while there is that really good and memorable one.\u00a0 That’s what\u00a0it’s all about.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/strong> Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
\nMike:<\/strong> I like the Annoyed Librarian:\u00a0 http:\/\/blog.libraryjournal.com\/annoyedlibrarian\/<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 Not because it’s particularly informative, but it’s fun.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/strong> Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nMike:<\/strong> Get involved in a professional organization, and get to know others in your profession.<\/p>\n

I grew up in central and northern Minnesota, and received a BA in History from the University of Minnesota.\u00a0 I worked in for an insurance company and a law firm after college.\u00a0\u00a0 At the law firm, my job involved creating databases to track large collections of documents, and assisting staff in using those databases.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 These experiences got me interested in library and information science.\u00a0 I earned an MLIS degree in 2009 from the College of St. Catherine\/Dominican University program.\u00a0 I \u2018ve worked in a corporate library, a K-8 school library, and my current position, Library Technician at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m married, have two children, one dog and a cat.<\/em><\/p>\n
