I’m going through book club withdrawal and have subsequently been brainstorming different book club scenarios I could create in my new town. That got me thinking about what books would be good for this community, both serious and not so serious. Here are a few I would suggest, but I’d love to hear other suggestions from you.

1) The World’s Strongest Librarian by Josh Hanagarne. I’ve seen this title floating around for a while and it’s rated highly on Goodreads. Clearly a good pick for a group of librarians and strongmen. Wait, we’re not all body builders?

2) Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. This has been a controversial book in the on-going working mother versus stay-at-home mother debate. I’d be interested to discuss this with the ladies out there, especially in the context of librarianship where women leaders are more prevalent than other careers.

3) Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. I saw this title listed in some other recommended job hunting books. Networking is something I struggle with, and I’ve heard the same from others I’ve worked with in the past. A book about networking could result in some interesting discussion amongst a group who does a lot of e-networking.

4) Open Season by Linda Howard. This is a guilty pleasure book (smut), but the main character is a librarian and she’s spunky. They can’t all be serious reads, right?

5) Quiet, the Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. This may be a similar pick to #3. I’m introverted and like to read about ways to use this trait to my advantage. I think it could also be helpful in understanding our patrons.

by Emily Guier, Head Editor, INALJ Wyoming INALJ Book Club I recently moved to a new town, and in doing so, left my established book club in Laramie.
