Several articles have been written on how to <a href=\"http:\/\/jobsearch.about.com\/od\/tips\/qt\/linkedin-groups.htm\">manage<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialmediaexaminer.com\/5-ways-to-use-linkedin-groups-to-build-influential-connections\/\">network<\/a> via LinkedIn groups. Joining groups can also be a great way for individuals with an LIS background to explore career areas outside the traditional library world. There are several Linkedin groups that focus on alternative careers for information professionals. Here are a few that you should consider joining (I\u2019ve included a description from each group\u2019s profile):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups\/Association-Independent-Information-Professionals-159756\/about?trk=anet_ug_grppro\">Association of Independent Information Professionals<\/a>: \u201cThe Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) is the premier industry association for information professionals working independently. The organization\u2019s membership consists of more than 500 business owners from more than 25 countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups?home=&amp;gid=134499&amp;trk=anet_ug_hm\">code4lib<\/a>: \u201ccode4lib is an informal group of people interested in computer technology and library\/information science that focuses on practical solutions to common and arcane problems of the domain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups\/Culture-Museum-Jobs-4109471?home=&amp;gid=4109471&amp;trk=anet_ug_hm\">Culture and Museum Jobs<\/a>: \u201cMultidisciplinary group to help those who look for a place in the world of museums and general cultural institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups?home=&amp;gid=45850&amp;trk=anet_ug_hm\">Digital Asset Management<\/a>: \u201cThe essential online meeting place for anyone who is involved in creating a digital media supply chain in their organization &#8211; for marketing, for media, for publishing, for everyone.
