{"id":33625,"date":"2013-07-30T14:30:25","date_gmt":"2013-07-30T18:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=33625"},"modified":"2013-07-26T22:53:57","modified_gmt":"2013-07-27T02:53:57","slug":"job-searching-tips-for-introverts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=33625","title":{"rendered":"Job Searching Tips for Introverts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Amanda May, Head Editor, <a title=\"INALJ North Dakota\" href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?page_id=5718\" target=\"_blank\">INALJ North Dakota<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Job Searching Tips for Introverts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/DSCF4325.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-29065\" alt=\"Amanda May\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/DSCF4325-300x225.jpg\" width=\"210\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a>If you are an introvert, like me, you may not be the biggest fan of social interactions.\u00a0 If I had to choose between a large group meeting and going to the dentist, I would probably choose to go to the dentist.\u00a0 Nonetheless, I do understand that social interactions, like interviews and meetings, are vital to the job searching process.\u00a0 Here are some ideas to make your search a little bit easier:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Schedule breaks between meetings and interviews: <\/b>Back-to-back meetings are tough for anyone, but as an introvert, it can be an exhausting experience.\u00a0 That is why I think that it is really important to have time to \u201crecharge\u201d after a meeting.\u00a0 I use the breaks to reflect on the meeting or interview.\u00a0 Most of all, I have time to collect my thoughts and relax.\u00a0 Even fifteen minutes can help me prepare for the next meeting or interview.<\/li>\n<li><b>Plan questions and conversation starters:\u00a0 <\/b>It sounds kind of cheesy, but I recommend taking the time to plan out ways to start a conversation.\u00a0 There will be small talk in meetings or interviews, so I find it nice to have something to fall back on in a group situation.<\/li>\n<li><b>Go to networking events:\u00a0 <\/b>I\u2019ll be honest. \u00a0I don\u2019t like networking events.\u00a0 The idea of talking to people that I have never met gives me the heebie-jeebies.\u00a0 Yet, I do understand their importance.\u00a0 They help people know who you are and what you can do.\u00a0 While you may want to avoid a networking event or leave as soon as you get there, challenge yourself to stay a certain amount of time.\u00a0 You may only stay for a half an hour, but you still would have met people.\u00a0 The next time you go to a networking event, try to stay a little bit longer.<\/li>\n<li><b>Don\u2019t pretend to be someone else: <\/b>I made the mistake of pretending to be much more extroverted.\u00a0 It was exhausting.\u00a0 I spent so much time trying to put across this idea of myself; I didn\u2019t have the energy to work on what was important to me and my job.\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong, I do think it is important to push yourself outside of your comfort zone.\u00a0 Just remember that there really is a limit, and that\u2019s okay.
