During the job search I also checked <a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=1441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">INALJ<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/joblist.ala.org\/modules\/jobseeker\/controller.cfm?search=showall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALA<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.archivists.org\/groups\/saa-online-career-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAA job listings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi:\u00a0<\/strong>Favorite library you have been to?<br \/>\n<strong>Savannah:\u00a0<\/strong> I think my favorite would have to be the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monteolivetomaggiore.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monte Oliveto Maggiore<\/a>, located in the hills of Tuscany. The walls are covered in frescoes and the books are breath-taking. I love performing reference and promoting the collection one on one, and the fact that a researcher can look at collections from the other side of the world is a wonderful concept!<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Naomi: <\/strong>Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?<br \/>\n<strong>Savannah: <\/strong>I very much enjoy Jill Hurst Wahl\u2019s blog, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/hurstassociates.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digitization 101<\/a><\/i>, the infographic blog, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www-958.ibm.com\/software\/data\/cognos\/manyeyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Many Eyes<\/a>\u201d, <a href=\"http:\/\/undergroundnewyorkpubliclibrary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Underground New York Public Library<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/digital-scholarship.org\/digitalkoans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DigitalKoans<\/a>, and for some laughs,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/derangementanddescription.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Derangement and Description<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Naomi: <\/strong>Best piece of job hunting advice?<br \/>\n<strong>Savannah:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><strong>Never give up!\u00a0<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to get discouraged when you think you are qualified yet cannot seem to get \u201cthe job\u201d.\u00a0 Meet with your grad program\u2019s Career\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">adviser<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">\u00a0 go over your resume and\/or cover letter. Start there.\u00a0 I thought mine was \u201cgood enough\u201d, but learned how I could make it even better.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let EVERYONE know you are looking.\u00a0<\/strong> A lot of jobs are found out by word of mouth and if you know someone-who-knows-someone, you will already have a friend to sing of your praises to a possible employer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><strong>Apply for LOTS of jobs.<\/strong> Even if something\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">doesn&#8217;t<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\">\u00a0seem like the \u201cperfect\u201d job when you read the description, you won\u2019t know until the interview what the job entails. And it may be your dream job!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Savannah Gignac is the Photo Librarian for the Emilio Segr\u00e8 Visual Archives at the Niels Bohr Library and Archives.\u00a0 She is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan, has a B.A. in English, and worked at a publishing company after undergrad. Before working at the American Institute of Physics, Savannah attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ischool.utexas.edu\/programs\/masters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Texas<\/a>, receiving her MSIS in 2012, interned at the Smithsonian\u2019s Archives of American Gardens, and worked for a year at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX, as Project Archivist in the Photography department. Her main interests include digital humanities, copyright, and photography collections.
