\nSavannah:\u00a0<\/strong> I saw the job listed on Archives Gig<\/a>. During the job search I also checked INALJ<\/a>, ALA<\/a> and SAA job listings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naomi:\u00a0<\/strong>Favorite library you have been to?
\nSavannah:\u00a0<\/strong> I think my favorite would have to be the Monte Oliveto Maggiore<\/a>, located in the hills of Tuscany. The walls are covered in frescoes and the books are breath-taking. No touching though! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Naomi: <\/strong>Favorite book?
\nSavannah: <\/strong>Nightwood<\/i><\/a> by Djuna Barnes.<\/p>\n

Naomi: <\/strong>Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nSavannah: <\/strong>My favorite thing about libraries and library technology is being able to help in the process of connecting the public to the material they seek. I love performing reference and promoting the collection one on one, and the fact that a researcher can look at collections from the other side of the world is a wonderful concept!<\/p>\n

Naomi: <\/strong>Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
\nSavannah: <\/strong>I very much enjoy Jill Hurst Wahl\u2019s blog, Digitization 101<\/a><\/i>, the infographic blog, \u201cMany Eyes<\/a>\u201d, Underground New York Public Library<\/a>, DigitalKoans<\/a>, and for some laughs,\u00a0 Derangement and Description<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Naomi: <\/strong>Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nSavannah:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Never give up!\u00a0<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to get discouraged when you think you are qualified yet cannot seem to get \u201cthe job\u201d.\u00a0 Meet with your grad program\u2019s Career\u00a0<\/span>adviser<\/span>\u00a0 go over your resume and\/or cover letter. Start there.\u00a0 I thought mine was \u201cgood enough\u201d, but learned how I could make it even better.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let EVERYONE know you are looking.\u00a0<\/strong> A lot of jobs are found out by word of mouth and if you know someone-who-knows-someone, you will already have a friend to sing of your praises to a possible employer.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Apply for LOTS of jobs.<\/strong> Even if something\u00a0<\/span>doesn’t<\/span>\u00a0seem like the \u201cperfect\u201d job when you read the description, you won\u2019t know until the interview what the job entails. And it may be your dream job!<\/span><\/p>\n

Savannah Gignac is the Photo Librarian for the Emilio Segr\u00e8 Visual Archives at the Niels Bohr Library and Archives.\u00a0 She is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan, has a B.A. in English, and worked at a publishing company after undergrad. Before working at the American Institute of Physics, Savannah attended the University of Texas<\/a>, receiving her MSIS in 2012, interned at the Smithsonian\u2019s Archives of American Gardens, and worked for a year at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX, as Project Archivist in the Photography department. Her main interests include digital humanities, copyright, and photography collections.
