style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Professional Organizations: Beyond ALA<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<em>This is part three of a three part series 300px\" \/><\/a>While ALA is the largest and best known of professional library associations, did you know that there are many local and specialty specific library associations that may meet your needs better than ALA?\u00a0 Many of these associations hold their own conferences (more speaking and networking opportunities!), maintain their own jobs list, and offer various scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>This article is going to highlight a few national library organizations but you can always find your local association by searching for \u201clibrary association\u201d and the name of your state or region or check the ALA\u2019s list of state and regional chapters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/groups\/affiliates\/chapters\/state\/stateregional\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 And remember, even regional or state associations can be subdivided in to interest groups and specialties, so there is a space out there for everyone.\u00a0 This is just an overview of the few, of many, you can join!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/aall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-26085\" alt=\"aall\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/aall-300x35.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"35\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/aall-300x35.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/aall.jpg 361w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>If you are interested in law librarianship \u2013 you might want to look into the AALL: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aallnet.org\/default.aspx\">American Association of Law Libraries<\/a>.\u00a0 Created to \u201cpromote and enhance the value of law libraries,\u201d this association has over 5,000 members made up of law librarians and professionals affiliated with law schools, firms, academic libraries and local, state and federal agencies.\u00a0 Their annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aallnet.org\/conference\">conference<\/a> is coming up in July if you want to attend!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/atla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26086\" alt=\"atla\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/atla.jpg\" width=\"261\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a>The ATLA or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atla.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\">American Theological Library Association<\/a> is dedicated to the librarians who support theological and religious studies.\u00a0 Founded in 1946, ATLA consists of nearly 1,000 members and represents many religious traditions and denominations.\u00a0 They maintain an online collection of more than 220 religion and theology journals at ATLASerials.\u00a0 Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atla.com\/Members\/conference\/Pages\/default.aspx\">conference<\/a> for 2013 is in mid-June.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/arlis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-26087\" alt=\"arlis\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/arlis-300x34.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"34\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/arlis-300x34.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/arlis.jpg 428w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>ARLIS\/NA or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arlisna.org\/index.html\">Art Libraries Society of North America<\/a> is an organization of more than 1,000 and is dedicated to the fostering of excellence in art and design librarianship and image management.\u00a0 Librarians in art history, visual arts, architecture, museum studies and archaeology may find a good match in this organization.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/sla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26088\" alt=\"sla\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/sla.jpg\" width=\"172\" height=\"97\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sla.org\/\">Special Libraries Association<\/a> consists of over 9,000 members in 75 countries.\u00a0 SLA includes members from corporate, academic and government libraries.\u00a0 They provide many webinars as well as in person opportunities for professional development.\u00a0 Like ALA, SLA has many smaller sub-divisions and regional chapters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ajl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26089\" alt=\"ajl\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/ajl.jpg\" width=\"261\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a>The Jewish Libraries Association was created to promote professional development opportunities and leadership within librarians dedicated to Judaica librarianship.\u00a0 It is made up of two primary divisions the Research Libraries, Archives and Special Collections (RAS) and the Schools, Synagogues, and Centers (SSC.).\u00a0 This association is international in its membership and is associated with the ALA and ATLA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mla1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26090\" alt=\"mla1\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mla1.jpg\" width=\"222\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlanet.org\/\">Medical Library Association<\/a> (MLA) consists of more than 4,000 health sciences information professionals from more than 1,100 institutions.\u00a0 They seek to promote the importance of quality health information and health care information to the public.\u00a0 They maintain a job board, meet annually and have several local chapters.\u00a0 MLA helped establish <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlanet.org\/resources\/global\/\">Librarians without Borders<\/a> to assist people anywhere in the world in need of health related information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mla2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26091\" alt=\"mla2\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mla2.jpg\" width=\"146\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a>Another MLA is the Music Library Association.\u00a0 Established in 2008, they provide a professional forum for information professionals who support and preserve the world\u2019s musical heritage.\u00a0 They develop and promote professional development aimed at music librarians.\u00a0 They promote legislation that aids in music library service and universal access to music and collaborate with other groups to further their cause.\u00a0\u00a0 They have an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/copyright.musiclibraryassoc.org\/\">copyright guide<\/a> for music related questions.\u00a0 They hold their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musiclibraryassoc.org\/about.aspx?id=58\">annual
