{"id":24421,"date":"2013-06-03T12:15:52","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T16:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=24421"},"modified":"2013-05-27T13:05:13","modified_gmt":"2013-05-27T17:05:13","slug":"seeking-a-library-job-while-employed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=24421","title":{"rendered":"Seeking a Library Job While Employed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Veda Darby Soberman, Head Editor, <a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?page_id=5682\" target=\"_blank\">INALJ Hawaii<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Seeking a Library Job While Employed<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/veda_bridge_goodcrop_picnik.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-21828\" alt=\"veda_bridge_goodcrop_picnik\" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/veda_bridge_goodcrop_picnik-300x272.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/veda_bridge_goodcrop_picnik-300x272.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/veda_bridge_goodcrop_picnik.jpg 370w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>Many of us are lucky enough to be in the process of hunting for our dream library jobs while currently employed either in another library job or at a job in a different field.\u00a0 Even if you think you already have your dream library job, don\u2019t rule out the possibility of finding something even more ideal.\u00a0 There are some challenges which come along with job hunting while employed, but with some tact and forethought, career disasters can be avoided and success achieved.\u00a0 Here are a few tips if you are on the job search while employed:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 <b>Use your time wisely.<\/b>\u00a0 Schedule time to conduct your search at least 3-4 times per week.\u00a0 Take time to search before or after your workday.\u00a0 Never conduct your job search while at work.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 <b>Don\u2019t tell, and do tell.<\/b>\u00a0 In general, it is best not to tell your co-workers or employer that you are seeking a job.\u00a0 This could bring into question your loyalty to your current organization.\u00a0 However, you will want to let those trustworthy individuals in your professional network know that you are in the market for a new position.\u00a0 Use discretion, also, in what you reveal on your social networking sites.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 <b>Be present.<\/b>\u00a0 While you have an eye to the future, it is important to also maintain focus on your current job.\u00a0 Continue to do your best in your present position.\u00a0 You want to maintain your professionalism, so that when the time comes, you can leave on good terms.\u00a0 You want to avoid burning bridges, even if you are in an unhappy work situation.
