\nNaomi:<\/b>\u00a0 How did you find your current job?
\nSusannah:<\/b>\u00a0 After applying for what seemed like a million jobs and perfecting the art of answering key selection criteria, I happened to see the current job I have advertised on an online job seeking site. I spent about 5 hours on my application and engaged with a career mentor prior to beginning the job seeking process. The career mentor was very helpful and assisted me with improving my resume and answering KSC’s. I had previously done a university placement in a public library, so coupled with my previous background, I think really helped get me over the line.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?
\nSusannah:<\/b>\u00a0 The Athenaeum Theatre Library and Arts Centre libraries-theatrical libraries in my city which hold many ephemera from old shows, including costumes, scripts and other documents.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite book?
\nSusannah:<\/b>\u00a0 I am an avid reader with my favourite genre being biographies. However, I have always loved the Anne of Green Gables series. They are classic, romantic and quite entertaining. Plus I think I have a little bit of Anne Shirley in me.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nSusannah:<\/b>\u00a0 Libraries are essentially the hub for the local community. There are also events and meetings going on that members of the public can readily engage in.
\nLibraries are also crucial for early learning development in children and assist a variety of people with a multitude of referencing requests. I love being part of the website and digital side of things, due to the exciting innovations that are consistently being introduced. Utilising social media such as Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook are really important for any marketing and publicity for libraries. The reach that these social media sites can achieve is amazing. Many people do not realise how much they can receive from their local library, and it is all free!<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nSusannah:<\/b>\u00a0 Try and see a career mentor if you can. Get other people to read your resume and applications. Treat every application like an academic assignment and do not give up! Work in a temp role while trying to pursue your career dream.
\nYou will get there!<\/p>\n

I am a Librarian within Digital Services in the public library sector in Melbourne, Australia.
\nAfter being involved professionally in the advertising and media industries, (having worked for online websites such as realestate.com.au<\/a>) I decided to embrace a complete 180 degree career change. I have always been interested in literature and technology, so I decided to study my Masters in Information Management (Librarianship) at RMIT University in Melbourne.
\nMy previous professional background ended up being highly relevant to my new career path. Because of my digital background, I have been able to combine the best of both worlds in essence.<\/i><\/p>\n

Currently, I am working in Digital Services in a public library service in the Melbourne western suburbs.<\/em>
