Library Superstar Dream Jobs<\/span><\/h3>\n

Often, I\u2019ll see a news story about a cool space and know that a librarian is the unsung superstar. That\u2019s right, I said superstar. The following is a list of some dream jobs:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 GM Heritage Center, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>http:\/\/www.gmheritagecenter.com\/about-gm-heritage-center\/<\/span><\/a>. I heard about this archive on the radio, and maintaining the history of a car company seems as if it would be pretty varied and interesting. I would say the only downfall would be the looming threat of funding cuts\u2014a heritage center would be an easy budget cut to make for an automotive company.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Books by the Foot<\/strong>, <\/span><\/span>http:\/\/www.booksbythefoot.com\/<\/span><\/a>. I don\u2019t think a library background is necessary to work at this company, but it couldn\u2019t hurt. Basically, clients purchase books by the linear foot to suit a decorative scheme. There are also instant library options, which I think would be awesome to create. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Baseball Hall of Fame, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>http:\/\/baseballhall.org\/<\/span><\/a>. I\u2019m throwing this one in for my husband who is a big baseball fan. I think this would be an opportunity to work with a specific collection and interact with some die-hard fans.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Entertainment Weekly, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>http:\/\/www.ew.com\/ew\/<\/span><\/a>. There are several research librarians on staff at Entertainment Weekly. Working at any major publication would be interesting, but I\u2019m into pop culture making this an ideal gig.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cruise Ship Librarian.<\/strong> I wouldn\u2019t apply with Carnival, but a job on a cruise ship would be an opportunity to see the world and meet a whole range of patrons.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
