Naomi House\u2019s interview with Library Journal 2012 Mover & Shaker<\/a>, Joshua.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Josh<\/a>Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 How did you come to work for your current position?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 After graduating from the University of Illinois with my MS in Library and Information Science, I accepted the position of Reference Librarian and Assistant Professor of Library Science at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. For the last four years, I have been the Humanities Librarian at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Can you speak a little bit about the program you won the Library Journal Movers & Shakers award for?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 Honestly, I am not sure which project ultimately put me over the top. According to the writer who interviewed me, my nominations came from a broad cross-section of librarians, faculty members, and institutions. Unlike many of the Movers and Shakers<\/i>, I probably stick out as not pioneering any nationally-recognized project or program. At Denison, my nominations revolved around my library instruction and digital projects, from campus scholarship<\/a> to community archiving<\/a>. My nominations from McNeese focused on my role in the resurrection, and online relaunching, of the Library Certification Program. This program provides an opportunity for \u00a0students and working professionals from around the state of Louisiana to complete the necessary Library Science certification needed to become a School Media Specialist. All of these projects were collaborative, and community based, so I always feel a bit timid when asked about the award.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite book(s)?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 On the fiction side, John Updike\u2019s entire Harry \u201cRabbit\u201d Angstrom series is certainly at the top of my list. \u00a0I would also put Lorrie Moore\u2019s short-story collection, Birds of America<\/i> near the top. Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco\u2019s Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt<\/i> and Derrick Jensen\u2019s The Culture of Make Believe <\/i>are both sitting on my reading table at home.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 The endless possibilities.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Are there any blogs or websites we should be following?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 I am always inspired by the work being produced at Triple Canopy<\/a> and the Reanimation Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Any tips for job hunters?
\nJoshua:<\/b>\u00a0 Don\u2019t let job descriptions intimidate you. Very rarely will a library actually get a candidate who is fluent in six languages, has an MLIS and two PhDs, and a deep understanding of XML, XSLT, EAD, jQuery, Linux and cold fusion.<\/p>\n
