\nRyan:<\/b>\u00a0 I was on a solo roadtrip from Melbourne to Cairns last year in November, Moreton Bay posted the ‘Senior Library Assistant’ position on a Job seeking website called Seek. www.seek.com.au<\/a><\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?
\nRyan:<\/b>\u00a0 Brentwood Public Library<\/a>, Nashville – aesthetic wise.\u00a0 Yarra Plenty Library<\/a> – Diamond Valley or Eltham branch – collection wise.\u00a0 The reason I put two library services in I could not say one was better than other. Each has a strong point and why it is memorable to me.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite book?
\nRyan:<\/b>\u00a0 I hardly read unfortunately, which I am hoping to get back into with this new position.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nRyan:<\/b>\u00a0 More people are becoming aware that libraries are not just a quiet space for study and borrowing books. I like the fact we Re promoting literacy by promoting events such as meet this author, cooking demonstrations, free wireless.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?

I would really recommend getting involve in Twitter<\/a>, it has really boomed compared to when I first joined the social medium website in 2007. Also any forums in www.linkedin.com<\/a> based on ALA and ALIA. Add me @ryansiri <\/a>to your twitter and have a look at some of the people I am following and add to your twitter following.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nRyan:<\/b>\u00a0 VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER and when you do take note of the little duties you complete as they may have help when thinking of examples on how to answer the selection Criteria in positions you apply for. When you volunteer don’t just limit yourself to Libraries as they can be transferable when you do apply for librarian positions.<\/p>\n

If you are single and have nothing to tie you down, relocate, it is hard I know as I am experiencing it right now emotionally but also professionally but it is great way to expand yourself both personally and professionally.<\/p>\n

I am Ryan Siriwardene. I will be 30 at the end of March and just secured my first full time job in Queensland. Located 30 minutes away from the city, I will be doing outreach programming at the Deception Bay branch. \u00a0I have moved up from Melbourne and away from family and friends for this job so it is a huge risk for me personally and professionally. I graduated from RMIT University in Information and Knowledge Management. If I could describe myself in a couple of words it would be determined, enthusiastic and interactive.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
