current work position, I remember feeling overwhelmed.\u00a0 I had applied for quite a few positions, so it was really hard to keep track of everything.\u00a0 I felt like I was drowning in paperwork!\u00a0 I knew that I needed to buckle down and get organized.\u00a0 I wanted to work in a library.\u00a0 This organization thing should come pretty naturally, you know?\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nJob Search Log<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In order to keep track of every application, I created a job search log using Microsoft Excel.\u00a0 When I applied for a job, I used the spreadsheet to keep track of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Position Title<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Company<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contact Name<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Phone Number<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">E-mail Address<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mailing Address<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Website<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application Deadline<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application Date<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application Submission Method<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Application Materials Submitted<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How I Heard About this Job<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Interview Date and Time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Notes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Status of Application<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Is this a bit excessive, perhaps, but I found that having more information was a lot more helpful than not enough.\u00a0 When I applied for a position, I didn\u2019t necessarily fill out every box.\u00a0 It really depended on the job opening.\u00a0 It worked as a \u201cone stop shop\u201d for all of my application information.\u00a0 Another benefit to the job search log was the ability to see patterns in my job search.\u00a0 For example, I saw that certain types of companies took longer in their search.\u00a0 I also saw what types of companies were calling me for interviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Folders<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I tailored my cover letter and resume for each specific job opening.\u00a0 In order to keep track of all of this paperwork, I created a folder system on my computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I created a folder titled, \u201cJob Search.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When I submitted an application, I created a subfolder using the company name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the subfolder, I included a copy of my cover letter, resume, application, and job description.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When I first started my folder system, I didn\u2019t include the job description in the company\u2019s subfolder.\u00a0 I thought that I could easily access it online.\u00a0 I quickly found out that it wasn\u2019t quite that easy.\u00a0 By taking the time to include the job description in the company\u2019s subfolder, I alleviate a lot of stress for myself.\u00a0 The job description helped me prepare for the interviews.\u00a0 It also was nice to have to on hand for any potential references that may request to look at the job description.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By using a job search log and a folder system, my job search process became a lot easier.\u00a0 I became much more aware of the job search and a much better informed
