\"johnshank\"<\/a>Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 How did you find your current job?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 I was in a grant funded position at Bryn Mawr College Libraries and was looking for a permanent innovative position within the Mid-Atlantic region in and came across the job ad (I think it was from the Chronicle of Higher Ed<\/a>) and thought it was a\u00a0perfect\u00a0match for my interests and experience.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite library you have been to?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 I have been to a fair number of libraries and depending on the criteria you are using size, collections,\u00a0architecture, etc… I probably would have a couple. However, I think I am very\u00a0fortunate\u00a0because I work at a library that fits my personality and is a vibrant hub of our college campus at Penn State Berks. Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite book?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 This question is like asking me which of my six kids is my favorite – I love them all and have no favorites. There are simply too many great books for me to answer this with one. Hope I don’t sound too much like a politician.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Favorite thing about libraries\/ library technology?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 It can be a central place where a community comes together to discover, learn, and create.<\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 I think it is crucial in today’s networked and fast paced world to join the stream of news, thoughts, insights, and information shared by other professionals via LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. Choose the ones that most resonate with your interests and career. I currently am exploring social curation\u00a0tools such as Scoop.it! I have a site for Blended Librarianship<\/strong> with this site at\u00a0http:\/\/www.scoop.it\/t\/blended-librarianship<\/a><\/p>\n

Naomi:<\/b>\u00a0 Best piece of job hunting advice?
\nJohn:<\/b>\u00a0 If you make it to the interview process, make sure you learn all you can about the institution and staff\u00a0in order\u00a0to make sure it is a good fit for you and your personality. Best ways to do this are visit the website and identify staff then search\u00a0Twitter<\/a>, LinkedIn<\/a>, and Facebook<\/a> and the web in general for posts by library staff, and if possible make an advanced trip to the library before the Interview and talk to people to get a sense of the culture and community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
