{"id":10038,"date":"2017-04-19T10:34:14","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T15:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=10038"},"modified":"2017-04-19T10:32:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T15:32:00","slug":"ten-useful-websites-for-techie-librarians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?p=10038","title":{"rendered":"Ten Useful Websites for Techie Librarians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u00a0by Rebekah Kati, former Head Editor,<\/em> <a title=\"INALJ North Carolina\" href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/?page_id=56411\" target=\"_blank\"><em>INALJ North Carolina<\/em><br \/>\n<\/a><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0Ten Useful Websites for Techie Librarians<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/RebekahKati.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-57201 \" src=\"https:\/\/inalj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/RebekahKati-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"RebekahKati\" width=\"184\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>As a techie librarian, I am frequently overwhelmed by the number of tech blogs and resources that show up in my feed reader and on the internet. \u00a0It is difficult to know which stories and sites are important, and which can be passed by. \u00a0I expect that I\u2019m not alone in this feeling, and I\u2019d like to share my favorite library tech sites in no particular order:<\/p>\n<p>1) <strong>Codecademy<\/strong> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/\"> http:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/<\/a><br \/>\nNeed to learn JavaScript, Ruby or HTML? \u00a0Codecademy provides free interactive online tutorials that will help you learn these languages and more. \u00a0It\u2019s great for visual learners, such as myself, and let\u2019s be honest &#8211; who doesn\u2019t like earning badges for completing a task?<\/p>\n<p>2) <strong>Lifehacker<\/strong> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/\"> http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/<\/a><br \/>\nLifehacker posts about tips and hacks to make your life easier. \u00a0I frequently learn about tweaks or new software from this blog.<\/p>\n<p>3)<strong> The Librarian in Black<\/strong> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/librarianinblack.net\/librarianinblack\/\"> http:\/\/librarianinblack.net\/<\/a><br \/>\nIf you haven\u2019t read Sarah Houghton\u2019s blog, you really should. \u00a0Sarah posts about issues in libraries and frequently touches on technology. \u00a0She is not afraid to voice controversial opinions.<\/p>\n<p>4) <strong>Teleread<\/strong> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teleread.com\/\"> http:\/\/www.teleread.com\/<\/a><br \/>\nTeleread covers news related to ebooks and online publishing. \u00a0The blog also includes a section specific to libraries, so you can easily find relevant library news and stories.<\/p>\n<p>5) <strong>Mashable<\/strong> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/social-media\/\"> http:\/\/mashable.com\/social-media\/<\/a><br \/>\nMashable posts news about social media and other Web 2.0 systems. \u00a0Click on the Social Media tag to bypass the entertainment stories.<\/p>\n<p>6) <strong>Not Safe!
