My interview with INALJ success story Lauren
Naomi: Favorite library you have been to?
Lauren: My favorite library is the Library of Congress.
Naomi: Favorite book?
Lauren: Favorite books are The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway and Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky.
Naomi: Favorite thing about libraries/ library technology?
Lauren: My favorite thing about libraries is the policy of granting access to information to all.
Naomi: Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
Lauren: Websites/blogs to follow are any that have to do with your location and the type of job you are seeking. For non-job related, I would recommend PLI’s Library Relations blog and the Tugboat! Music Blog.
Naomi: Best piece of job hunting advice?
Lauren: My best piece of job hunting advice is to be persistent. Have a list of places to check for job listings or even set up an RSS feed. Apply to at least one job every single day. Realize that you will not hear back from many, but do not let this discourage you. Keep trying; it only takes one!
I’m Lauren and I finally found a job as the Library Relations Manager at the Practising Law Institute, thanks to Naomi and INALJ. I grew up in Syracuse, NY and have a B.A. in English from George Mason University. I worked for two years as a law firm librarian in Alexandria, VA before going back to get my MLS at Syracuse University. I spent a semester abroad in Hamburg, Germany (as well as in Paris, when I was in undergrad). I moved to NYC last winter for internships at the Museum of Modern Art Library and the Guggenheim Museum Library. I worked part-time at the Guggenheim until I found my current job.
