Naomi House’s interview with success story Kristen.

kristendNaomi:  How did you find your current job?
Kristen:  I found my job by browsing the INALJ list for Florida, late one night. It was not listed on any major library job sites.

Naomi:  Favorite library you have been to?
Kristen:  New York Public Library- they house most of the original stuffed animals from Winnie the Pooh.

Naomi:  Favorite book?
Kristen:  It’s a tie between “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “The Hobbit”.

Naomi:  Favorite thing about libraries/library technology?
Kristen:  The way they can help people learn new things either in person or virtually. A library can serve so many functions, from helping someone learn to send an email, find a job, or just find a good book to read.

Naomi:  Any websites or feeds or blogs we should be following?
Kristen:  The Annoyed Librarian!

Naomi:  Best piece of job hunting advice?
Kristen:  Don’t take a break from job hunting, and apply even if you aren’t sure you have enough experience.  As long as you have the required degree you should apply.

Kristen started at Daytona State College in January 2013 as the new Circulation Services Librarian.  She previously worked at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Hunt Library while attending graduate school at FSU to obtain her Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies.   She is originally from Pennsylvania, but has moved all over the country to attend school, finally ending up with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Geology and Paleontology from the University of New Orleans.  She spends most of her free time walking her two Welsh Corgis and rescuing turtles.  She is also a volunteer with Sunshine Welsh Corgi Rescue.
