Ch-ch-changes for INALJ in 2016!

DSCN2884Thanks to everyone who gave and continues to give via PayPal & GoFundMe I am able to keep INALJ.com going for the near future!  Your help paid some of my bills and allowed me to really concentrate on INALJ.  Also HUGE thanks to all INALJ’s sponsors of pages and of jobs!  You are the best!

2015 was …. interesting.  Filled with more needless busywork than one free library jobs site should create for itself and its volunteers, lol, but we made it.  And looking back I realize there are some major time savers I can employ in 2016 mostly with the goal of saving my volunteers and I time, while still providing an excellent cache of LIS related jobs for job hunters.  Whew.

So what is changing?

  1. Back to pdfs!  I still dislike the pdfs but the truth is it will save me roughly 10-30 hours a week adding a few pdfs daily instead of updating 63 individual pages.
  2. Back to daily updates!  You may have noticed around October I moved towards updating 2-4 times a week.  That is due to the unusual, manual method and its time constraints.  Nevermore!  Pdfs will be updated daily and posted to the site.  I expect sometime in late January for this really to be regular.
  3. Articles may appear more regularly!  May.  I’d still love to write at least 1 a week and it may even happen.  And as always anyone can click on Blog for Us and well, blog for us.
  4. Volunteers will be aware of their one calendar year commitment!  Because many weren’t and now we will make that clear  🙂
  5. Volunteers will be managing their own time off!  Instead of us finding subs etc all volunteers will fill in their own calendar- this will save time on emailing and double work.  Woot.
  6. Fundraising will continue!  I’ll leave PayPal and GoFundMe up and still accept sponsored pages and jobs because any little bit helps me a ton, and I appreciate that the internet makes this easier!

Lets see how this all goes!  We are chugging along into our 6th year and who knows what the future might bring?  PS: photo is with my husband, Sana  <3  The blurry spot on the image is where it is scratched when I dropped it 😀

Naomi House, MLIS, is the founder and publisher of the popular webzine and jobs list INALJ.com (formerly I Need a Library Job) and former CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) of T160K.org, a crowdfunding platform focused on African patrimony, heritage and cultural projects. INALJ was founded in October 2010 with the assistance of her fellow Rutgers classmate, Elizabeth Leonard. Its social media presence has grown to include Facebook (retired in 2016), Twitter and a LinkedIn group, in addition to the interviews, articles and jobs found on INALJ. INALJ has had over 21 Million page hits and helped many, many thousands of librarians find employment! Through grassroots marketing, word of mouth and a real focus on exploring unconventional resources for job leads, INALJ grew from a subscription base of 20 friends to a website with over 500,000 visits in one month. Naomi believes that well-sourced quantity is quality in this narrow job market and INALJ reflects this with many new jobs published daily. She has also written for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 LexisNexis Government Info Pro and many other publications in the past decade. She presents whenever she can, including serving on three panels at the American Library Association's Annual Conference in Las Vegas; as breakout presenter at OCLC EMEA in Cape Town, South Africa; as a keynote speaker at the Virginia Library Association annual meeting; at the National Press Club in Washington DC; McGill University in Montreal, Canada; the University of the Emirates, Dubai, MLIS program and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Naomi was a Reference, Marketing and Acquisitions Librarian for a contractor at a federal library outside Washington, DC, and has been living and working in Budapest, Hungary and Western New York State. She spent years running her husband’s moving labor website, fixed and sold old houses and assisted her husband cooking delicious Pakistani food. She is preparing to re-enter the workforce and is job hunting. Her husband is now the co-editor of INALJ, a true support!  She has heard of spare time but hasn’t encountered it lately. She pronounces INALJ as eye-na-elle-jay.
